A wonderful book of poetry....This book is important and beautiful. Peg Boyers has a way of getting you invovled in the moment in a new world where everything is changed but you still feel comfortable. Meeting new people through her poems she soon makes them familiar to you but it is a show of her mastery of the craft that makes the poems so alive. This is a fine, elegant wonderful book. Buy one for you and another for a friend. You will enjoy each page and every poem!

Icarus and Aria
Published in Paperback by Renmen Publishing (01 October, 1997)
Average review score:

Okay, I'm prejudiced...But not really. I was in the play's July 2000 west coast premiere at Sacred Fools Theatre. This is a brillantly written show which updates the classic R&J story. But it's MORE than that. It serves up verse as in-depth as Shakespeare's, as poetic as Fry's, as beautiful as the sonnets, as magical as any fantasy. At the heart of the story is love, but at elliptical orbits around the story is a hard look at family, at new-found fame (and its attendant pressures), and at the courage that's required to follow your dreams. This is totally modern language...in gorgeous verse. If you wonder what it might have been like to be alive and reading Shakespeare's works a year or two after he wrote them, find out; buy this play.

The Insiders' Guide to Phoenix--1st Edition
Published in Paperback by Insiders' Publishing Inc. (July, 1999)
Average review score:

I enjoyed the historical facts & the personality close-ups.This book was filled with wonderful descriptions of Phoenix personalities and I enjoyed the historical references peppered throughout the book. I live in Phoenix and it gave me some ideas for places to explore I haven't yet been to. The restaurant reviews were on target. I do suggest that it be updated each year as since publication a few of the restaurants have gone out of business. This is a good travel guide as it gives great ideas for activities that appeal to a broad range of interests. The insider tips were definitely a plus.

Las Cartas Phoenix/the Phoenix Cards
Published in Paperback by Inner Traditions Intl Ltd (October, 1996)
Average review score:

Absolutely fascinating!Did you ever have the feeling that you have lived before, but weren't quite sure about past life therapy? This book, in conjunction with the small deck of cards that goes with it, takes you by the hand through the ancient symbolism of various cultures throughout history. With a combination of said symbolism and your own intuition as a guide, you can determine where your past lives might have been, and how they are influencing you today, and in the future. Time is fluid, and there is nothing scientifically concrete about any of this -- but the book is well researched and is obviously a carefully written labor of love.
If this topic interests you at all, this is a beautiful place to begin.

Last Phoenix: A Story of the Cia's Phoenix Program
Published in Paperback by Publication Consultants (December, 1998)
Average review score:

Entrancing characters, makes you fume with rage and furyThis is a great book. It has some problems, to be sure, is poorly edited and some of the historical asides drag on forever and take away from the action. The typographical errors are glaring. But, the author gets inside your head and provokes sympathy and thought, brings the whole sickness and drama of Vietnam alive and holds your attention fixedly. This book is written at a much higher literary and psychological level than most "vietnam war" books. While the author seems to tire out right at the very climax of the book, this book is a wonderful work by a talented author.

The Map : Trails of West Phoenix
Published in Map by Arizona Mapping Kompany (15 January, 1998)
Average review score:

A Bikers Best Friend!!Being new to the Phoenix area and new to mountain biking I found this map extremely helpfull. It's more descriptive and accurate than the many hiking books that I own. As a beginner on the bike, I found the rated trails and routes very accurate which is the exception to the rule of most books. This map should prove useful to any trail user. I know I'll use it for hiking as well. I can see that without it I would have missed out on some the better trails in my area. If you love to bike or hike as much as I do, do yourself or a friend a favor and get this book!!!!

The Master of Phoenix Hall
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (July, 1991)
Average review score:

An excellent read, gothic romantic suspense set in CornwallOne day lovely Angela Todd was a seamstress struggling to survive in London; the next she was the owner of Dower House,a cottage in Cornwall (after a distant relative died, leaving her the home). However someone wants Angela out of the house, a series of frightening pranks and threats begin. Angela also has to choose between two suitors; gentle Greg Ingram, the local schoolmaster and arrogant Roderick Mellory, master of Phoenix Hall. Who is so desperate to get Angela out of Phoenix Hall? Why? Which man will she choose? There are excellent plot twists, characters are well developed & great dialogue. Great (& not predictable) ending, too. This book is a definite must have!

McKay's Bees (Phoenix Fiction)
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (Trd) (October, 2003)
Average review score:

An ignored classic.McMahon's historical fantasy is written with accuracy, wit, lyricism, and great insight. The book follows Gordon McKay's travails in his fantastic plan to create a planned community based around bee-raising in Kansas in the 1850s. He recruits a number of strange characters to aid him in his Quixote-esque quest. An incredible book that hopefully will one day be recognized for its true brilliance. You needn't be a bee fan to appreciate its elegance; I'm not. On a par with other gems like Marilynne Robinson's "Housekeeping".
